Belarus, a country located in Eastern Europe, is renowned for its Stalinist architecture, impressive fortresses, and untouched forests. In the modern capital city of Minsk, the imposing KGB Headquarters overlooks Independence Square, while the Museum of the Great Patriotic War commemorates the country’s role in WWII. Minsk is also home to several churches, including the neo-Romanesque Church of Saints Simon and Helena.

Belarus boasts numerous rivers and over 11,000 lakes. Three major rivers flow through the country: the Neman, the Pripyat, and the Dnieper. The Neman flows westward towards the Baltic Sea, the Pripyat flows eastward to the Dnieper, and the Dnieper flows southward towards the Black Sea.

The country shares borders with five nations: Latvia to the north, Lithuania to the northwest, Poland to the west, Russia to the north and east, and Ukraine to the south. Border agreements were reached in 1995 and 1996 with Latvia and Lithuania, and a 1997 agreement established the Belarus-Ukraine border in 2009. Belarus and Lithuania finalized the border delineation documents in February 2007.
